Continuing the trend of useless applications that are linked to Facebook, today we are going to take a look at the mess that is Facebook Chat @Desktop. As the name suggests, this application's developers did not spend sufficient time to find a decent name. I have to admit though that finding an original name that refers back to Facebook is indeed hard.

Why?

Facebook Chat @Desktop is a messaging platform for relaying Facebook messages. You just need to log in with your Facebook ID and password and you can then begin using Facebook Chat @Desktop as a regular desktop messenger.

The layout is pretty basic. Your friends list is on the left and chat window on the right. The color scheme is defined by blue&white gradients. Apparently the designers think this is modern and stylish. I beg to differ.

There wouldn't be much else to say about it. Fortunately, the program is so blatantly unfinished that I cannot but imagine that the developers had to vacate the premises in moths before having a finished product. Graphics simplicity does not bother me, but missing graphical elements does. The scroll bar is basically a window within a window (see picture). Furthermore, the friends list starts to flicker from time to time. When this happens you are not able to interact with the window but have to wait until it calms down. Hey, at least you can test if you have a disposition for epileptic seizures.

If I am to think more about it, Facebook Chat @Desktop also has some big accessibility problems. Sending a message requires you to click on the Send button. No, you cannot use [Enter] or [Shift] + [Enter]. New messages are signaled by an audio notification and highlight. Still, if you have a lot of friends, you will take a while to find the one that typed since the application does not focus its view.

I hope I have covered everything that's wrong with it, but in case I forget, I must tell you that the installer is a huge trap for junk software. Installing Facebook Chat @Desktop is a true detective's test. From "recommended" setups to disabled looking buttons, this one has it all.

Facebook Chat @Desktop is a rushed package that is insulting to potential users. If you really want to have a dedicated Facebook messenger for your desktop, you can find better options.
